BORN 1909-1998, SHOEBURYNESS, ENGLAND
Jack Shadbolt has long been recognized as an artist of international stature but his work has always spoken with a West Coast accent. Attracted and influenced by North American Indian mysticism and surrealism, his images generally have a dreamy, symbolist quality. Shadbolt was a respected and loved artist, teacher and benefactor who made an outstanding contribution to the arts in Canada. His numerous international awards and recognitions, such as his appointment to the Order of Canada and honorary doctorates from four Universities attest to his accomplishments. Jack Shadbolt is widely regarded as one of Canada's pre-eminent painters.
